When the Elders asked Gary Canan to work with the congregation in October, 2004, he was given the charge of building a youth group. Gavin Wilkie had been gone a year and the youth activities were obviously missing. The annual Hayride and Cookout at Thunderbird [below right] was a fun outing for many of the South Walker families.
The first youth activity was the December 5th Area Wide Youth Gathering. South Walker had 12 attend the evening worship at Cherokee Hills. They traveled to Seminole next. The January outing was enjoyed by 16 youth and sponsors.
The annual Moore Central Youth Rally was a great opportunity for our group to spend time with Willie Franklin. 28 congregations from across the state enjoyed the granddaddy of youth rallies.
The February AWTG was hosted by Westside Norman. After pizza at the building, the convoy headed toward the Lloyd Noble Center for the OU Women's Basketball game with K-State. The crowd of 6,200 was fun, but the 800+ teens who sang praises together after a meal at Westside were awesome. We took 22 young people and had the support of 12 adult sponsors!
In March the faithful made the trek south to Southwest Ada. Finishing the school year long study of the Beattitudes, the group [shown on the Home Page] enjoyed an evening at Wilshire.
